What's your experience been with using wooden wicks in candles?

I have not used candles with wooden wicks myself but I have seen people using them. I think wooden wick candles are comparatively smoky. However, I like to use incense sticks that use wooden wicks. Wooden wicks incense sticks are highly aromatic.

I have never used wooden wicks either. I would think they'd burn differently & smell more.

I’ve been testing out some wooden wicks, is it normal for it to have small sparks around the flame?

From what I read, it's when the candle is consuming more wax than it can burn.
"Lighting a "mushroom" can lead a wick to crackle and pop and release soot into the air and onto your candle container."
Wooden wicks do tend to crackle more than other wicks.
