We have camped before but in a motorhome, not roughing it. What I like about this is that it's quite simple & can be utilized for when someone needs soap in a quick pinch. Or just to make it for regular use.
This article has the history of soap from ashes which I thought was fascinating.
"if you throw some white ashes from a hardwood fire into your frying pan after dinner — the lye in the ash will combine with the fat from the cooking to make a crude soap...."
Has anybody heard of this before? Have you used this type of soap? What did you think of it?
