How to Stiffen Crocheted/Knitted Snowflakes

There are a few methods for hardening your hand stitched snowflakes and one is to use a mixture of Elmer's Glue and water in equal parts and stir. Soak your pieces for about 5 minutes, squeeze out the excess solution and pin the snowflake to a prepared blocking board for 24 hours.

Another method is to use Gelatine and I've never tried that but you can find it as well as other examples in this link:

This video is showing the method that I've personally used for my crocheted snowflakes that I gave out as gifts to family. They have lasted 25 years now!

This is a great thread for those who are making snowflakes but want to try some ways to not only stiffen them but to make them last as well. @KMO Studio Yours has lasted 25 years? Now would be 28 I'm assuming? lol Wow! That alone would help people know that methods like these work & are long-lasting :)

Oh, they definitely can last a long time. I know some people like to use sugar water to stiffen them, but they need to beware of mice or rats being lured in by the sugar.

Oh, I never thought of that! Maybe put them in a plastic Ziploc bag & even put in a cedar chest to help repel.
