Decoupage

Have any of you tried this? It consists of cutting shapes out of paper then gluing them to an object. You then coat it with varnish. It can look quite professional!
If you have done it, what have you tried it on? Do you have any tips & tricks to make it more successful for others?

In school we did decoupage using magazines and it was fun, but really messy. We just used Elmers glue since it was school. I bought some Mod Podge to try it and then never got around to it and the bottle dried up. oops.
